When you love to cook, it's always so nice to find good reliable tools to make it fun, that don't cost an arm and a leg. I'm more than willing to pay for good quality, but don't necessarily think that equates to a hefty pricetag. Case(s) in point. I've been looking for a reliable, BIG salad spinner. That's one 'gadget' I really can't live without. I was finally prepared to slap down $40 for an Oxo I'd read was a good one. While price shopping, I checked in one last store, yes, WalMart, and discovered the Mainstays brand of kitchenware.
The centrifugal spinner spins really fast and has a definitive stop button. The vegetable peeler was a crapshoot. I always bought the inexpensive silver ones that worked great, taking off only the very top layer of whatever needed peeling. They've been replaced by fat-handled peelers that had efficiency designed right out of them. In the past year or two, I've bought 4 or 5 and used each once before bringing them to Goodwill - reverting to my old super-glued peeler once again. I won't use one that strips off 1/8-1/4" of the vegetable, along with the outer peel! Well, this one works wonderfully! The little kitchen scale was a surprise. I've been looking for a dependable one for years and I think is it - for under $9. The peeler was around $2 and - - the spinner - - under $10! YEA!!! :-)
