Liver Sausage (Braunschweiger) Cream Cheese Spread

I've made this before using plain cream cheese, so this one had really nice heat and texture dimensions added using the jalapeno and garden vegetable cream cheeses.

Put equal parts of cream cheese and liver sausage, probably 3oz. each., in a bowl and mash together until blended.

Add a little salt - smoked sea salt, onion or garlic salt would be good, as would smokey paprika and some dry dill to bring out more depth of flavor.

I'll make this often I think. It would have been even better if I had toasted that really good oat bread I just made, but it was still excellent. . .Lin

Liver Sausage Cracker Spread

6oz. liver sausage
6oz. cream cheese
1 lg. clove garlic
2T sour cream
½t garlic salt
½t dry dill

Grate the garlic into a small glass bowl with the other ingredients.  Mix with a fork, microwaving 15 seconds or so if needed, to soften.  Chill an hour or so before serving with crackers. . .Lin

Cream Cheese - Liver Sausage Spread

In a small bowl, combine equal parts of Neufchatel cheese (cream cheese) and liver sausage (braunschweiger).  Add a tablespoon of powdered onion soup mix, for every 6oz. of combined weight.  Let stand for an hour or so to hydrate the onions.  If this seems really dry, add 1-2 tablespoons of water or milk.  Use this as a dip for pita chips, crackers, vegetables, or as a sandwich spread. . .Lin

I wondered what the difference was between liver sausage and braunschweiger and I found this information.  "Liverwurst is a general term referring to any liver sausage.  Braunschweiger is a smoked liver sausage, named after the town of Braunschweig in Germany.  Therefore, a Braunschweiger is a liverwurst, but not all liverwurst are Braunschweiger." 😊
