Golden Berries !?!

Well, I guess you're never too old to learn something new!
Golden Berries!  Who knew!  Well. . .not me!
I saw these at my little neighborhood Super One Grocery Store, a few blocks from my house.  Since I'm always looking for new and different foods, of all kinds, especially unique fruits and vegetables...I snapped up a pack!  I tried some just now in a leftover fruit salad.  Interesting.  They're textured like a tough grape with teeny little seeds.  The flavor is harder to describe.  A little bitter, yet with a certain sweetness too.  I'm thinking I may combine these with another odd favorite of mine, kumquats. . .and some raisins, in some sort of sweet & sour chicken and rice dish.

Michael Pollan

This is a good video illustrating the need for sticking with the philosophy of Slow Food.

If you find this one helpful, there are a lot more he has done:

Hope you find this informative and helpful.

If I had to narrow down ALL my pots to one, this is the one that would be left.  It's just an amazing cooking pot.  Get one (or two or ten) if you ever have the chance, you won't be sorry!

Soup Bases

Sometimes a healthy pot of soup or chili is lacking a little in flavor.  If you find this to be the case, here are some possible options.  Read labels if MSG or gluten are concerns for you, there are some companies that eliminate those ingredients.

The cabbage soup I just made was needing a little something so I used the cilantro soup base, which brightened up the flavor considerably.  Experiment a little using small amounts each time until you get the flavors just right.  Have fun with it.  Happy cooking!  .  .  .  Lin

Please support her efforts in any way you can.

Forks Over Knives Trailer

This video clip explains the Forks Over Knives lifestyle concept well:

Another Approach To Better Health

A friend of mine recently had a small stroke.  Since then she's been put in touch with the Forks Over Knives book and video, outlining lifestyle changes.  She's now feeling so much better as well as losing weight.  Certainly solid wisdom we need to each consider.

Information

What a great idea!

This is what Martha Stewart calls a Bouquet Garni.

Normally tied in cheese cloth.

I've used coffee filters to create these by putting herbs and spice in the filter, then stapling them shut, but never a tea ball.

This is another great option.

Balsamic - Olive Oil Dressing

Start with a pretty little clear glass dressing container.  Fill it half way with very good quality Italian extra Virgin Olive Oil.  Fill the rest of the way with your favorite Balsamic Vinegar.  I've tried at least a dozen in the past year and this one is my favorite.  If you haven't been Balsamic Vinegar Shopping, you should!  Make it an adventure.  Buy a couple and see what you like or don't, about each.  I have a few (Pomegranate, Blood Orange and Raspberry Balsamic) that are so fruity the main thing I use them for is fruit salads.  Some are so dark, complex and heavy that they're best with a little butter and oil to brown and deglaze red meat.  Balsamic vinegars are quite different from one another.  I have a Red Apple and even a Coconut White Balsamic!  There's a White Pear Balsamic Vinegar that's really a good one.  I'm sure you'll find several you love.  Happy hunting. . .Lin

A More Balanced Food Pyramid. . . . .

For years I've seen pure folly in the conventional food pyramid.  Several have appeared in the past few years, but here's one that's far more balanced.  If this makes sense to you too, check out this site and read more about Dr. Fuhrman's research and work with his patients.

Food Matters

This movie, based on the book, of the same name, by Mark Bittman
can literally revolutionize the way you think about food,
your life and the disease processes that may already be at work in your body.....

Elephant Garlic

I buy mine at our local Walmart.

Buy only those that are firm and heavy for their size. The bulbs I've bought there are always very fresh and inexpensive. The last GIANT one I bought for $2.88 was a beauty! I have a little more than I can use in the next few days, so I'll freeze some. Peel and cut the stem end off each clove. Bag in a Ziplock, pop in the freezer! When needed, remove clove(s) slice-dice-chop and add to stew, sauce, soup. . .Lin

. . .and for lunch I had a big yummy bowl of FIBER. . .

Surprisingly, this huge salad, with only 'normal' salad ingredients,
has only about 1/7th the recommended daily amount of fiber
– until –
you add ½ a can of beans, ½ an avocado and some nuts or seeds
then, guess what?
you've just eaten 6/7th of your daily requirement!

One can of beans + 1 avocado per day would easily put you over the top!
And your body would be very happy  :-D

Fiber is talked about a lot, but often not sought out as part of a healthy daily diet.
Beans are the best source and the more you read about them in regard to the fiber
they bring to the table, the more you'll realize. . .
they truly are a Wonder Food!

Do your body a favor – Eat Colors – AND – Eat some Beans (and avocados). . .Lin

CUCUMBERS!!!

Gramma was right — Eat your vegetables!
